There is likewise the sensational system set up by Northrop Frye, Hayden White and others: * Spring/Comedy/Conservative/Hero prevails with regards to changing a degenerate society or some likeness thereof and in sentiment and additionally other individual endeavorsthe story line is viewed as moderate since it proposes that our general public is essentially OK, at the center, albeit singular treacheries must be met and vanquished (and this should be possible through mind and the revealing of bad faith and vanity as opposed to through activity, especially radical and brutal activity). Summer/Romance/Anarchistic/Hero forsakes or neglects to change a degenerate society yet prevails in sentiment; the class is viewed as revolutionary since it presumes that triumph can just occur fair and square of individual achievement or disappointment; frequently, the most ideal approach to manage a degenerate society is to just leave, to get away and make ones own general public. * Autumn/Tragedy/Radic al/Hero reestablishes request yet is crushed or bears individual misfortune as a result of it; the class is viewed as radical since it recommends that adjustments in the public eye can be made, ought to be made, must be made with activity, and must be made even at extraordinary individual expense. Winter/Satire/Liberal/Hero neither reestablishes request nor prevails in close to home objectives; regularly, the saint is as degenerate as the general public he would, in different classifications, be endeavoring to change, or he gets degenerate in his endeavor to make change; the class is consider liberal since it proposes that political change is a fantasy, that no adjustment in the framework will deliver crucial changes in societyalthough maybe we can accomplish little triumphs by living wellbut we should acknowledge an Im alright, youre OK disposition about things and acknowledge that courageous designs to roll out large improvements are bound to disappointment. It is significant, coincidentally, to remember the political part of writing. Nothing is more political than writing, in any event, when it doesn't clearly makes a contention about a specific policy driven issue, in light of the fact that such a large amount of writing is worried about force and profound quality, about what is valid, acceptable, and conceivable, about what is simply and lovely, about who has force and who ought to have power in the public arena and in the family, and how that force ought to be utilized, and for what closes. It is elusive a work of writing that doesn't request that we get together with or join against specific characters (or the storyteller); in doing this, a work of writing turns into a contention possibly in support a specific political, moral, social, or potentially moral plan. Another thought is that of the content as verbal article, as independent universe of verbal rationale, whose aesthetic effect comes less from the thoughts themselves however from how those thoughts and characters work as an independent framework, in how an orchestra isn't such a great amount about tone yet about structures of tones, and the manner in which a model isn't such a great amount about picture as about the participation of numerous pictures to make a solitary impact. 2. Inquiries of themes and images Motifs are another significant part of anecdotal structure. Pictures or subjects may e rehashed or, as regularly happens in music, utilized as a progression of minor departure from a focal picture or topic. As in group analysis, the utilization might not need to allude to any significance outside the content, in spite of the fact that sometimes this is of focal significance to the importance and effect of the content, however it is in every case genuine that they make a feeling of association between various angles or minutes in the content itself. For instance, on the off chance that we realize that roses are critical to the saint, any utilization of roses or rose symbolism might be an indication of this sort of association. Images are, obviously, a focal part of writing. Anything that isn't actually what it is, that may have some concealed significance or implications, can be an image. Images, obviously, can be utilized to make a reverberation or association of meaning(s) all through the content through reiteration and variety. 3. Inquiries of character One of the most significant issues in writing is that of character. All things considered, one of the primary reasons we appreciate and consider writing is on the grounds that we are keen on the anecdotal individuals who possess the imagined universes we visit when we read or watch stories, plays, films, and so forth. It isn't unordinary to turn out to be genuinely put resources into specific characters (and this frequently says as much about who we are as it does about the characters themselves). We frequently need to consider who the characters are and what sorts of characters they are: saint, wannabe, hero, reprobate, rival, champion, principle character, optional or minor or supporting character, and so on. To put it plainly, we have to consider the job each character plays in the story. How would they influence the activity of the story and what is the creator attempting to state with these characters? Also, one can think about the profundity of character advancement. Frequently you will have model or stock characters: virginal courageous woman, guiltless youngster, eager general, fallen lady who entices the saint, and so on. Some stock characters are attached to specific sorts. Progressively current works normally attempt to create characters in far more noteworthy mental profundity; it is viewed as an indication of good composing that the characters are more than stock figures however completely acknowledged people. (A courageous woman can even now be virginal, and frequently is, yet she ought to be a specific virginal champion, an individual instead of a simple kind. Obviously, a few stories intentionally draw upon stock characters and afterward accomplish something other than what's expected with them, for example, an honorable cowhand who is treated as a comic figure since he is likewise stupid as a stone. Another issue is the job of optional characters and their relationship with the primary characters. Regularly, auxiliary characters are utilized to supplement the principle characters or to appear differently in relation to them here and there. A framework plot by Northrop Fryesee Anatomy of Criticism, pages 172-173has four fundamental character types The first is theâ eironâ (the self-deprecator). There are a few sorts ofâ eirons, including the unbiased legend as well as champion and the clever side-kick (initially in Roman show, this was a dubious slaveif youve seen Marty Feldman in Young Frankensteinâ you get the thought) Other kinds of characters in Fryes conversation of dramatization (which can likely traverse to fiction some-what) are: * theâ alazonâ (the blocking power, regularly a deceptive braggart, and in some cases a dad figure in rivalry with the saint for the young lady (Frye calls attention to that comedies frequently consolidate both sexual and political triumphs: kid spares worldâ andâ gets young lady) * theâ buffoonâ (who builds the celebration of the temperament instead of adding to the story) * theâ churlâ (sometimes a straight man, regularly a guileless provincial, now and then essentially somebody who will not go into the sprightly soul of occasions) We ought to consistently think about how as a character fits into a story, how they further the plot, what the creator may be attempting to show us by including certain characters. We may likewise need to analyze whether characters are completely evolved and three dimensional, stock character types (the reckless fighter, the aloof gun fighter, the sage, the virginal princess, and so forth , or altogether representative or metaphorical. Some of the time creators utilize intentionally muddled charactersthe characterâ whoâ suddenly does the opposite of what we hope to cause to notice the entire idea of generalizations and stock characters (e. g. , the virginal princess who is additionally a superior shot than the legend). Also, one ought to consider how open or private a view we have of the charactersdo we just observe what they do and say, or do we get an opportunity to perceive what they think and feel, as well? 4. Inquiries of Style is one of those fluffy terms that can mean a great deal of things. It is, be that as it may, worth thinking about the genuine style, language st ructure, and introduction of the content. This can cover a huge scope of literary highlights, including the length and multifaceted nature of sentences, the variety of sentence shapes, the overall level of unique or solid language utilized by the content, the utilization of pictures, the length of passages, pacing, the division of the content in parts or areas, even the physical design and creation estimations of the content (the size and text style of the typeface, the nature of paper utilized, and so forth ), despite the fact that this last might be outside the control of the creator. These elements can impact how we experience the content, how practical we discover the story, how we see the characters and their activities, etc. 5. Inquiries of genreâ (definition) Genre actually implies kind or class. Pretty much every content can be portrayed as having a place with at least one sorts; the couple of textsif any existthat are unclassifiable can even now be moved toward dependent on the class to which they might be reactions (counting dismissals). Kinds are valuable to perusers and pundits on the grounds that each sort builds up a lot of rules, desires, and so forth , about the writings structure, content, objective, individuals who are permitted to make such messages in any case, individuals who should peruse the content once it is finished, how significant the content is, the thing that subjects may be investigated in the content, etc. Some essential inquiries incorporate the accompanying: What makes this a novel, rather than some other structure, similar to a novelette, an epic, a show, an anthem sonnet (in writing structure, etc? What makes this a specific sort of novel, e. g. , recorded, western, sci-fi, dream, sentiment, secret, and so forth.? Is the basic emotional nature of the story comedic, awful, sentimental, or satiric? Another issue is whether the class is one that uusally (in spite of the fact that not generally) treats the subject seriouslytragedy, show, epic, loathsomeness, sentimental stories, hard sci-fi, a few sorts of parody, and so on or which is intentionally ludicrous, entertaining, or potentially unrealisticparody, a few kinds of parody, and so on. Obviously, with type, it is consistently imperative to recall that a few stories fit consummately into some type, while others are not all that handily classified since they se

Internal Control Audit And Financial Reporting Accounting Essay Example For Students

Internal Control Audit And Financial Reporting Accounting Essay Accounting Standard No. 5, an audit of internal control over the fiscal coverage that is integrated with an audit of fiscal statements, was created by the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board as an amendment to Accounting Standard No. 2 to clear up uncertainnesss for hearers. The criterion was created in conformity with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act ( 2002 ) which requires direction of publicly held companies to describe on the effectivity of internal control in add-on to the appraisal of fiscal statements. When carry oning an audit of internal controls over fiscal coverage, the hearer must derive an apprehension of the audit entity so that the hearer can successful place possible internal control hazards. The hearer achieves this by utilizing the top-down attack, which is a consecutive procedure of placing hazards and which controls later need to be tested. This attack begins with the hearer placing hazards of internal control over fiscal coverage to guarantee the truth of fiscal statements. In order to guarantee truth, the hearer must place likely stuff mistakes in the fiscal statements. After placing internal control hazards of fiscal coverage, the hearer must so concentrate on hazards associated with entity-level controls. Entity-level controls are more specific controls established within the entity to guarantee the dependability and confidence of fiscal statements such as control environment, controls to supervise other controls, and controls of terminal of period coverage. Control environment controls consist of direction s ability to set up effectual internal controls over fiscal statement coverage and the integrity/ethics supported by direction. The control environment besides includes controls like the effectual inadvertence of the board of managers and audit commission over direction. Controls that proctor other controls include direction override, which is of import in to guarantee the engagement of direction with internal controls and fiscal statement coverage is non excessively influential. Often these controls are designed to place dislocations in lower controls. Entity-level controls can hold important effects on the likeliness that stuff misstatements will be detected or prevented in a timely footing. An hearer s rating of entity-level controls can ensue in the increased or decreased extent that an hearer will execute proving on other identified controls. Following the hearer s focal point of entity-level controls the hearer must scatter farther by placing important histories, revelations, and matching averments. This measure of the top-down attack requires that the hearer assesses histories, revelations, and averments that can show a possibility of material misstatement in the fiscal statements. To decently measure these, an hearer must see qualitative and quantitative hazard factors which can include size/composition of histories, susceptibleness of error/fraud, nature of the history, and dealing complexness. It is the hearer s duty to find possible histories and revelations that can be possible beginnings of stuff misstatements. To better the confidence that an hearer determines misstatement beginnings, the hearer should hold a thorough apprehension of the induction, mandate, processing, and recording of minutess. The hearer should besides place controls direction implements to forestall or observe unauthorised acquisition, usage, or temperament of assets that could potentially do a material misstatement. Walkthroughs are a utile auditing tool, where the hearer uses enquiry, observation, document review, and public presentation of controls to follow a dealing from inception throughout the company s procedure of entering. It is up to the hearer to guarantee that the controls tested support the hearer s decision of the control sufficiency for assessed hazard of misstatement. The audit of internal control over fiscal coverage can frequently ensue in a material failing or important lack, which consequences in different intervention harmonizing to established auditing criterions. A material failing is a lack, or combination of, originating in the audit of internal control over fiscal coverage, when there is a sensible possibility that a material misstatement of the company s fiscal statements will non be prevented or detected in a timely footing. .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .postImageUrl , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:hover , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:visited , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:active { border:0!important; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:active , .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .u77a582bebcd2983ed0d1338b2aa2fa8d:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: The First Reconstruction A Revolution EssayWhen carry oning an audit of internal controls over fiscal coverage there are several indexs hearers can witness that suggest a stuff failing exists. These indexs of stuff failings include marks of fiscal fraud by direction or the uneffective inadvertence of coverage and internal controls by the audit commission. It is besides likely that a stuff failing exists when an hearer identifies a material misstatement that would non hold been detected by the internal controls established by direction. Finally an hearer can reexamine old period fiscal statement revelations, and histories of fiscal restatements can frequently bespeak the be ing of a material failing. When an hearer has determined the being of a stuff failing, its find must be communicated in composing to direction and the audit commission. All failings must be communicated before the issue of the audit study of internal control on fiscal coverage. If the hearer determines that inadvertence of the audit commission is uneffective, the hearer must pass on this sentiment to the board of managers straight. A important lack is the being of one or more lacks originating in the audit of internal control over fiscal coverage. Theses lacks are less terrible than those of a material failing ; nevertheless are of import plenty to advert by those responsible for fiscal coverage inadvertence. When an hearer has determined the being of a important lack, the hearer must pass on its being in composing to the audit commission. The hearer must so pass on all important lacks of internal control of fiscal describing with direction and advise the audit commission when this communicating has been completed. After pass oning the audit findings with the audit commission, direction, and/or the board of managers the hearer is required to make an audit study. In the study the hearer must province the being of restriction with an audit of internal controls for fiscal coverage. 12 Years a Slave and Crossing the River Postcolonial Critique free essay sample

In the words of Kurt Vonnegut, â€Å"all this happened, more or less.† Despite the fact that time-travel and World War II (aka Slaughterhouse Five) have absolutely no relevance here, the quote still stands as a remembrance of sorts. Slavery in the colonial period happened more than less, actually. From the 16th to 19th centuries, the British Empire orchestrated the greatest institution of oppression through the Atlantic slave trade, subsequently producing unconscious bigotry and racialized fantasies. As a postcolonial United States absconded from the political, cultural and economic ways of Great Britain, imperialism remained as a consequence of the human colonialism of slavery. Steve McQueen’s adaptation of 12 Years a Slave depicts the legacy of slavery and racism, and its relation to the African American diaspora. Through the collapse of identity and white prevalence, 12 Years a Slave subverts order and chaos in postcolonial America with efforts to decolonize the mind . The film offers an autobiographical account of a freed black man, Solomon Northup (Chiwetel Ejiofor), who –in 1841- is kidnapped after being enticed with a job offer, and sold into slavery. We will write a custom essay sample on 12 Years a Slave and Crossing the River: Postcolonial Critique or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Through Northup’s inexplicable struggles, McQueen provides a striking glimpse into a painful chapter of American’s history, which was shaped and influenced by former colonial powers. Although 12 Years a Slave imparts a 19th century narrative, McQueen manipulates the archetype to depict the justifications of slavery through colonialism, and the detached lens of his postcolonial subaltern protagonist, Solomon Northup. Needless to say, the director offers an account of imperialist tropes and racialized fantasies; still, we can render McQueen’s film as a postcolonial canon, since it offers a moment of reflection on the troubled history and identity of Blacks from a colonial context. Although the movie focuses primarily on African American studies, it nonetheless proves to be postcolonial, despite Ashcroft’s belief that the two fields â€Å"are vastly different disciplines† (KCPS 151). Both share the goal of destabilizing racial hierarchies, and exploiting power relationships between the colonizer/colonized and master/slave (which can be examined through colonial discourse). Thus, discrimination and racism towards black slaves in the United States and diasporic individuals (as a result of colonialism) become synonymous through the theory of neocolonialism. Under these circumstances, 12 Years a Slave and Caryl Phillips’ Crossing the River come to be one in the same through their want to reclaim and recover ethnic identity, and decolonize those internalized mindsets. In both McQueen’s adaptation and Phillips’ novel, slaves are depicted as capital incarnate, or living debts and impersonal obligations that were foisted upon them by their status as commercial objects. One of the major plantation and slave owners in the film, Edwin Epps (played by Michael Fassbender), can be seen as an extension of James Hamilton in â€Å"Crossing the River†. Each man in his â€Å"God-fearing† mentality personify the notion of commercial detachment, which essentially allows him to participate in the slave trade while maintaining a Christian belief. Thus, slavery became justified solely through the idea that it was a means for capital enterprise. Throughout 12 Years a Slave, the diversity of characters is conveyed through Solomon’s rather detached outlook, which inevitably fails him in his attempts to stereotypically classify slave proprietors as rogues, and the slaves uniformly as heroes. While this is actually a good thing, it allowed McQueen to subtly hint that the institution of slavery made masters and plantation overseers abusive and indifferent to human suffering. Subsequently, this notion parallels Phillip’s underlying argument of unconscious bigotry throughout Crossing the River. Each unrelated chapter alludes to the idea that men were not fundamentally cruel, and instead, was born into systems in which they had no control. The behaviors and conducts of the collective group shaped people’s perceptions of the right and wrong practiced. Over time, those notions became so deeply etched in the mind that no rational evidence to contrary could unlearn said inscriptions, i.e. Hamilton’s disregard for slaves as equal humans, Edwards naivety in â€Å"The Pagan Coast,† etc. By the same token, Phillip’s characters mimic the same detachment as Solomon Northup; their inability to recognize the situation at large shows the multinational diaspora through generations, and renders them as mere sketches of real people. However, McQueen’s adaptation consequently offers juxtaposition to Phillip’s novel; the former gives a narrative perspective of the slave, whereas the former looks at history from a different angle, through the prism of those normally written out of the stories (or viewed as the culprit). In any case, both the film and novel mutually agree upon the idea that bigotry was inscribed in the culture, not the person. With this being said, we can look at 12 Years a Slave as an anti-conques t film, despite the fact that it actively employs the Us-Them binary (i.e. the white vs. the black; the master vs. the slave). Nevertheless, Solomon resists the culture of the colonizer, regardless of the inflicted violence. While Northup is mercilessly beaten into denial of his freedom, slave owners revoke his identity by changing his name to Plat. Although he has been ascribed a new identification, Northup voices the fact that his name is Solomon throughout the movie. In efforts to decolonize his mind, he rejects the binary and upsets white prevalence by expressing his freedom. 12 Years a Slave ultimately demonstrates that the complexity of slavery lies in the fact that the consequences of it live longer than the persons involved in it do, much like that of â€Å"West.† In both cases, the notion of slavery manifests from the traditional definition of the institutional practices of buying and selling people, to having an excessive dependence on something that hold one captive (i.e. Joyce’s marriage to Len vs. Edwin Epps marriage to his Mistress). Through Northup’s narrative and Phillips ’ characters taking on different forms of gender, age, and race, we come to see how slavery was oppressive to all persons. Consequently, colonialism and slavery had the ability to affect the colonized people and its colonizers. Regardless, McQueen forces the viewer to sit through the 2 hours and 13 minutes entirely (unlike a book which one is able to put down at any time). He confronts the audience with the most disturbing of scenes and leaves an impression unbearable to the heart. Alternatively, reading subjects one to employ their own imagination; the events put forth become constructions of the mind, and the perceptions between readers vary. In 12 Years a Slave, McQueen does all of this and more by unifying the audience through feelings of horror and despair. His adaptation was virtually so intolerable, that the element of entertainment was completely obscured. Thus, the use of art cinema transforms the classical narrative and makes the unimaginable, imaginable. But I digress. At any rate, McQueen implies the redundant moral of physical struggle between noble, forbearing African Americans and white ma dmen, which leaves us grieving for those who never knew freedom outside a postcolonial America.

Essay about Children Raising Children

Essay about Children Raising Children Essay about Children Raising Children Children Raising Children Through the years the situation of teenage pregnancy has grown abundantly throughout the United States. Though the percentile has lowered some in the past few years, it is still a complex and controversial problem American teenagers have today. The realities and effects of teen pregnancies are sometimes very challenging and tough to face for the father, mother, and child. There is no way to completely put an end to all teen pregnancies, but hopefully there are ways out there to help lower the statistics. Although teen pregnancy is an ongoing problem, there are many ways to make it a less occurring incidence through sex education programs and school activities to help teens realize the consequences arising because of unprotected sex. Often when a teenage girl becomes pregnant and has a child many opportunities she once had are taken away. You can’t go and explore the possibilities of your future; you are forced to explore options for your childâ€⠄¢s future. Teenage parents have to put themselves second because now their child comes first; there’s no more going out with their friends to the clubs or to parties, they have to stay home and feed the child and change its diapers. One of the biggest problems amongst teenage parents is thinking it’s the right thing to do. At the time it seems like everything will work out and their life will not change very much, but what they don’t realize is the massive affect a child has on its parents. Teenage pregnancy is 100% preventable and being abstinent guarantees that you will not become pregnant. The smartest way to prevent pregnancy is to not become sexually active until you are married, this is called abstinence. Not all teenagers are able to follow abstinence due to peer pressure or their friends encouraging having sex. Teens need encouragement not only from their family but also their friends, to wait to engage in sex and have children at the appropriate age. There is no evidence to support that abstinence effectively prevents teenage pregnancies or decreases the number of pregnancies. Refraining from sexual activity and abstinence is the best and safest way to avoid teen pregnancy. Unfortunately getting the encouragement to abstain from sex is rare these days slightly due to television shows such as 16 and Pregnant, Teen Mom, and The Pregnancy Pact. These reality series show young girls that getting pregnant is okay and if they could do it, so could viewers. It condones premarital sex and portrays that it is okay to get pregnant. The media glamorizes the issue of being a teenager but also becoming a mother. Although the shows intentional idea was to portray the struggles of young teen mothers, it has backfired. All it portrays now is the idea that teens can get pregnant, have babies, and if you let a camera crew in your house to film it all happening, you could make money. Most teens get pregnant because they are not fully aware of all the different contraceptives that are available and do not know how to stay safe. Teenagers who become sexually active at a young age are more likely to become teenage parents because they are less knowledgeable about contraceptives and are usually not on birth control. The benefits of contraceptives are quite dramatic and helpful. Not only do they help prevent reduce the number of unintended pregnancies, they also reduce the amount of abortions, reduce the incidence of death or illness during childbirth, and they can help prevent the transmission of sexual transmitted diseases. The most common forms of contraceptives are to use a condom, go on the birth control pill, or get on the birth control shot. Misunderstanding and false assumptions regarding pregnancy and contraception can lead to an unwanted pregnancy. For instance, majority of US teenage females believe that if they lose their virginity and do not use a condom they cannot become pregnant. One should remember that there is a correlation between academic

The Break with Rome Essay Example for Free

The Break with Rome Essay Although it is fair to say that a number of important factors ultimately resulted in Henrys desire for a Break with Rome, it is clear that Henrys wish for a divorce from Catherine of Aragon to ensure a male heir was the key underlying motive throughout the saga. Henrys desire for power and financial gain are still both extremely important aspects of the debate, but it is certainly arguable that these are secondary ambitions which gained prominence as the events unfolded. For many years it had been clear that Henry strongly desired a male heir to the throne. It was also becoming clear that Catherine of Aragon was growing too old to bear him a child that he craved, and Henry saw this as a sign from God that his marriage to Catherine was unholy, with this point being reinforced by Catherines miscarriages. It appeared that a divorce was therefore the only solution, and for this reason it can be observed as the guiding factor in the Break with Rome. Catherine was obviously unhappy with this, and so to ensure that she would not be able to appeal to the Pope over any events that were to follow, Henry had the Act in Restraint of Appeals passed in 1533. This provided the pathway in 1534 for the Act of Supremacy. This enabled the King to alter doctrine, which he would be able to use to legalise the annulment of his marriage to Catherine. It was also extremely important in that [it] ensured opposition could be dealt with as the act required every subject to take the oath of Supremacy. The passing of the Act of Succession only several months showed how desperate Henry was to obtain his male heir. Henry was aware of the difficulties that Matilda, the only previous queen of England, had suffered, and so this act declared Mary illegitimate. Time was certainly of the essence here, as it was also important to Henry that his son be 16 at the time coming to power to ensure that he was not usurped in the same way that other boy kings had. Finally, the Treason Act also of 1534 also amplifies the idea that Henry was desperate that any son he had would be seen as legitimate and face few problems when he came to power. The actions taken between 1532 and 1534 would suggest that Henry was becoming desperate to ensure the divorce and obtain a son, and so provides strong evidence to suggest that these were his real motives behind the Break with Rome. Historians also argue that Henrys desire for financial gain was also an important factor which led to his desire to obtain the Break with Rome. Firstly, the Act in Restraint of Annates, which had initially began as a threat in 1532, was put into place in 1534. The initial aim was to persuade the Pope into granting the divorce. However, by 1534 it was clear that this was not going to happen and so Henry was implementing policies to ensure a Break with Rome. Ultimately, this means that by the time it was passed, the Act was no longer a way of threatening the Pope into granting a divorce. Instead, it was Henry simply take control of the Popes income and so it is therefore reasonable to suggest that by 1534, financial motives for a split had crept into Henrys thinking. This was again shown in 1534 by the Act for First Fruits and Tenths. This provides a further example of money that was formerly sent to the Pope becoming an additional income for Henry. It is certainly arguable that by this stage Henry was well aware of the potential financial benefits that the break could have, and so this may well have fuelled the rapid changes that occurred between 1532 and 1534. A final aspect of the divorce which is suggested by historians is Henrys hunger for power, and this becomes apparent when observing some of the Acts put into place. The Act for Submission of the Clergy in 1534 (created in 1532) can be seen as the first step in Henry trying to take control of a very important aspect of everyones lives, the Church. The Act of Supremacy reinforces the idea that Henry strongly desired power within the Church, and it begins to become apparent that along with the increasing financial importance that the break would have, power was also becoming an extremely important aspect. Such legislation as the Act of Supremacy and Treason Act provided Henry with security in his new positions, and with this evidence taken into account that it is certainly arguable that some of the other factors were simply covering for Henrys greed for power. It is worth considering that ideas of financial and power motives are not mutually exclusive. After initially just wanting the divorce and an heir, it may well have been the case that this lead to Henry obtaining more power which he was able to use his advantage for financial benefit. It is however also argued that Henrys initial intention was never to gain extra power, yet this still links in with the idea that Henrys lust for power evolved as events unfolded. Consequently, if the Pope had granted the annulment in the first place, Henrys desire for a male heir could have been rectified and the desires for power and money would never have been allowed to evolve. On balance, it has become clear that the way in which the events unfolded affected why Henry was so keen for the Break with Rome. Initially at least, there is strong evidence to suggest that Henrys only real motive was to obtain the divorce and produce a male heir. However, as the years rolled by it is suggested that the reasons behind the events developed. The concentration of legislation passing between 1532 and 1534 suggest both that Henry was becoming more desperate and also that a lust for power and money were now providing the fuel behind the events that both introduced and secured the Break with Rome. Therefore to conclude, although it is certainly possible that Henrys strong initial desire was for a divorce and to obtain a male heir, but once he realised the possibilities that lay before him in gaining power within the Church and increasing his income drastically to enable his exuberant lifestyle these motives expanded and diversified.

Music stations usually played one type of music so listeners could easily find what type they wanted. Pop had 4 major recording companies. RCA,Columbia, becca and Mercury. These companies had very good connection and could make a small band very big! Pop music had a subdued beat and smooth singing. R & B had black artists for black audiences. Country Western had the least affect by Rock and Roll. People who recorded at small independent music business and put out a record, they were called Indies. The first Rock and Roll hit   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The term Rock and Roll was usually used for describing physical sex. Allen Freed was credited with inventing Rock and Roll but that wouldn't be to good for him later in life. The father of Rock and Roll   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Alan freed was the first white disc jockey to play Rock and Roll. Alan show in Cleveland was very popular with teenagers. In 1954, Alan's show moved to WINS. His nick name â€Å"moondog† had to be dropped. He adopted the new title â€Å" the king of rock and roll†. Newspapers ran articles saying Alan was the main wrongdoer in creating Rock and Roll. A riot broke out at one of Alan Freed's concert. The police turned up the house lights to see what the teenagers were doing and Alan said something and the teens went on a rampage. Alan was to blame. He was charged but when the manager at WINS didn't stand behind him, Alan left and went to WABC. The charges were later dropped. Because of all of the court appearances, Alan filed for bankruptcy in 1959. In 1960, Alan was fired from WABC for not signing a statement that he took favors to play certain records. It was all down hill from there. In 1965 Alan died. His friends said that he had a drinking problem and it got worse when he was fired. Adult response to Rock and Roll   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Most adults did not like Rock and Roll. They thought it was vulgar and rude. Although there was never a link from violence to teens. Many incidences proved that wrong when Nat King Cole was performing and 5 teens jumped on stage and started to beat up him.

Down East Spud Busters

As a manager, one of the many aspects of your role is to â€Å"control†, which as you know, means periodically (or continually) checking on the status of production, operations, staffing, budget, quality, etc. Now, employees often react negatively to this, communicating actively or passively resentment about the manager's actually or figuratively â€Å"looking over their shoulders† or trying to catch them doing something wrong or always â€Å"making corrections† about the way things are being done. What re some strategies you can use to do a good Job controlling, but avoid the employee backlash In attitude? This really would depend on what type of Industry and the structure of the company. From my past working experiences I used deferent methods were needed to control quality and production. As a project manager In the telecoms Industry an on-hands style was needed In order to get each station physically approved from the vendor. The relationship between managemen t and supervisors,'leads could be anywhere In the range of tense to cordial depending on he quality of the job the supervisor's crew produced. There were other elements that also had to be taken into consideration. Such as, weather, equipment availability, and deadlines. A looking over the shoulder strategy is needed, and is part of some job specification. Another strategy I have had to use was daily receiving, production and shipping reports. While using these methods a minimum interaction is needed with the employees. These types of reports can tell you if production is down from absentee, bad products from vendors or equipment failures.

Analysis Of The Movie Crash - 1174 Words

Crash, a movie released in 2004, was set during what seemed to be quite a short time after the incident of 9/11. The entirety of this film paints such an emotional and touching portrait of racism within our seemingly modern society. It shows quite a few ethnic stereotypes that many people still will witness today; an older man who must obviously be Muslim because he s from the Middle East, and a Latino gang member who bears an assortment of tattoos and sports a shaved head. The interactions between each character tended to result in the audience, acknowledging and simultaneously questioning the stereotypes that are constantly being tossed about. But because of the many interactions between, literally each character, the audience is then able to take note of the character s depth: one person could be shown acting out some racist behavior, but seen doing, what people would call, an act of kindness within the next scene, whether it was to the same person or someone else completely different. This is only because the initial character s story line is interconnected with the next. Unlike most films, Crash is practically choked full of sociological concepts. One of two concepts that very clearly evident in this film would be racism. As many people know, racism; the discrimination against someone of a different race, is a very real and ugly thing that still happens even today. The Dark Colonialism and Racism in Heart of Darkness - Free Essay Example

Sample details Pages: 2 Words: 614 Downloads: 7 Date added: 2019/06/10 Category Literature Essay Level High school Tags: Heart of Darkness Essay Did you like this example? In Joseph Conrads lifetime, little objectiveness was made over his 1899 novella Heart of Darkness. Be that as it may, Throughout the span of the previous century, Conrads once-dark work about a man, Marlow, traveling down the Congo River, has turned out to be a standout amongst the most studied and most examined pieces of literature. It remains today, a standout amongst the most omnipresent things in school course syllabi around the United States and with it comes a varying range of perspectives, studies, and emotions. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "The Dark Colonialism and Racism in Heart of Darkness" essay for you Create order This novella, which likely has Conrads numerous endowments as an author, has been perused as a scorching evaluate of European colonialism in Africa. It makes a point, all things considered, of demonstrating the dangerous impacts the colonial exertion has on the mind of both its storyteller and its focal point, Kurtz. It goes to lengths to scrutinize the prudence of ill-natured Europeans. So intensely installed in the social cognizance of the book. Which is all to state that its not astounding that such a generally perused work ought to be the subject of a lot of controversies. For this situation, the controversy begins with how Conrads writings are frequently proclaimed as a triumph of anti-colonial estimation, it is indeed, just as racist as you would ordinarily expect nineteenth-century writings on Africa to be. However Conrad contemplates everybody he writes about, he portrays Europeans as the victims of colonization notwithstanding its culprits. To mind, the willfully vague and strange depictions that Conrads narrator uses to portray the general population and culture he experiences on his outing exhibit, rather than presenting a particularly optimistic or particularly pessimistic portrait of Africa and its culture, there is no representation of the portrait by any means. By privileging the European viewpoint, stating nothing by making every single African character basically mute and having indistinguishable masses of eeriness, Conrad reaffirms the regular story of Europes predominance over Africa. In any case, for Marlow as much with respect to Kurtz or for the Company, Africans in this book are for the most part seen as objects. Marlow alludes to his helmsman as a piece of machinery, and Kurtzs African mistress is, best case scenario a bit of statuary. It very well may be contended that Heart of Darkness takes part in a persecution of nonwhites that is significantly viler and a lot harder to cure than the open maltreatment of Kurtz or the Companys men.It ought to be maintained a strategic distance from the Europeans due to its otherness, its mysteriousness, and its assumed mediocre-ness. While readers may sensibly blame Conrad for tending to the topic of personal racism and bigotry while disregarding principal presumptions of European superiority incorporated within the structure of the book, there are differences that raise imperative questions concerning how and why we read. Extraordinary novelists like James Joyce and F. Scott Fitzgerald in some cases peppered racial slurs into their writings, and poor demeanors toward women abound throughout the commencement of writing, yet we are, presumably appropriate ly, detest to surrender to Ulysses (1922) and The Great Gatsby (1925). At what point does a specific delineation or portrayal go from incidentally offensive to possibly ruinous? How would we analyze the legislative issues of a masterpiece in a way that is reasonable for both writer and reader? Do we read essentially to be engaged and entertained, or do the books we perused unpretentiously shape our perspectives? Regardless of whether history eventually chooses that Heart of Darkness is too racist to possibly be extraordinary writing or too incredible to possibly be bigoted, we can, at any rate, express gratitude toward it for forcing readers and researchers to go up against their own suspicions about literature.

Capital Punishment A Moral and Economic Disaster

Capital Punishment: A Moral and Economic Disaster The average cost for a death penalty case in the United States of America is 2.4 million dollars. Currently, the number of people on death row is 3261. The government, therefore, would have to pay a little over 7.5 billion dollars to execute every single person on death row (â€Å"Death Penalty Statistics†). The United States government can alternatively spend this large sum of money in numerous ways aside from taking people’s lives, such as saving them, by putting the funds into projects like reducing health care costs, ending poverty, or expanding education, social prosperity would increase significantly. In addition, the government should not take a sacred human life based on limited evidence provided by an attorney that is trying to prove the guilt of the individual. Furthermore, when man tries to put himself in the place of God, too much power is put into the hands of a few individuals, which often leads to disaster . Although some may claim that capital punishment is necessary for society, it is a terrible evil that interferes with the laws of God and should be immediately abolished. Based on plentiful evidence, the death penalty is not an effective way to deter murder. Setback, Determination, and Recovery free essay sample

I have reached my senior year at Culver and I have one major goal, which seems to grow more difficult as the year unfolds. To provide some backround: last summer I worked at a polo farm, taking care of horses and working a barn so I could get some additional time to play polo. I wanted to improve my riding and mallet skills to assist CB (the best player on our team), as a wingman this season. I would also be able to step in for him if I were needed. To achieve this goal, it was up to me to build and enhance my riding skills if I aspired to become a great player at Culver. I realized this would not be easy, but I believed that working all summer would make the difference. Unfortunately fate crossed my path with devastating news for my polo career and my hopes. Late in the summer I joined in on a fun polo game whose purpose was to exercise the horses, I was there in the blink of an eye because I seized every opportunity to play. We will write a custom essay sample on Setback, Determination, and Recovery or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page Half way through this game I was pushed off my horse and had quite a brutal fall that would allow for no mercy on my body. Well it turns out that after finishing the summer at the farm, I would return to Cleveland with many back pains which I knew had come from my fall over the summer. Well I had come to find out, after what seemed like millions of x-rays, I had developed a stress fracture in my L4 vertebrate which was very unhealthy for someone of my age to have. So now that I have to wear a protective brace on my back for the next couple of months, I had lost hope for my polo career, but after talking to my friends who only gave encouragement and my coaches who knew what I was going through, I had begun to regain hope for my situation and knew that maybe eventually I could be back in the saddle, helping out CB on the field. I have gone to the gym and started doing physical therapy for my back and knew that if I work hard enough at it, I could maybe I could speed up the process of this whole back problem. Even though people have told me that it couldn’t’ happen, who are they to take away my hope, how can they put themselves in that position to judge my status and stamp a â€Å"done† on my fore head. I knew that as long as I could instill hope for myself, then there was nothing that I couldn’t do. It is now December and the doctor said that if I continue to wear the brace and if I continue to work with the physical therapist then I could be healed by January 3rd, which by coincidence is my birthday, so I am hoping for this to be one of my best presents. I take a step outside the box and look in on my situation, and I know that my odds are not great for me to heal as fast as the doctor said, but I know that there is that chance, and with it I will do absolutely everything that I can. I have heard so many hope stories and I often think to myself â€Å"why couldn’t that happen to me?† and that is what is keeping my on track and focused on this process of redeveloping my back strength and becoming that polo player that I envisioned over the summer.

Wayne Gretzky Essays - Wayne Gretzky, Pacific Division, Gordie Howe

Wayne Gretzky Wayne Gretzky has to one of the greatest if not the best hockey player in the National Hockey Leagues history. He was adored by almost everyone, the exemptions being his opponents. Now, Mr. Reynolds you say how do I involve Mr. Wayne Gretzky into my math analysis report? Well it is easy, throughout the duration of Wayne's career he has accumulated many points. He also has one many awards and I'll give you little quizzes to tell how much you know about the great one. Wayne Gretzky hockey career started at a very early age. He was born on January 26, 1961. He was born in Brantford, Ontario. He was always a great hockey player even at the young age when we were all just rink rats. Back then could you guess what numero he was. Well the answer would be number 9. Why, number 9, well because there was a legendary guy that was named Gordie Howe that had the jersey with a number 9 on it. When the great one was ten years old he recorded 369 goals in his fifth year in hockey. Wow, my (meaning Mark Lawrence) greatest year of hockey I only had 67 goals and 32 assists. That was in about 40 games. But then you look at Wayne's younger times and it makes me look horrible. People looked at Wayne Gretzky with high expectations, and some knew that he was going to something very great one day. The only problem people thought of him was that he was too skinny and he had no beef to himself what so ever. Well all of his points throughout his career proved everyone wrong. His coming into the NHL was in 1978-1979 year. He had 51 goals and 86 assists in 79 games played. That adds up to a whooping 137 points total. In that rookie year he had 13 power play goals, one short handed goal, six game winning goals. He has 284 shots on goal. So that means his 284 shots with 51 goals he had a shooting percentage of 18 percent. Wow, that is whomping good. Then you say, hey then that guy has to be very aggressive, and racks in the penalty minutes. Don't you think? But, Hey now he only had 21 penalty minutes. That would be 8 minor penalties and one major penalty. Now, you know the other teams are in some trouble. You have a man that can score but also can keep his cool. Wow, well compare him to someone also great. Oh, what the heck we'll compare him to me. I had an average of 1.5 penalties per game this year or around 3 minutes in the box. If you put that into Wayne Gretzky rookie year then he should have gotten 237 penalty minutes instead of his 21. In the 1982-83 season Wayne accumulated his most penalty minutes he has ever had in a season. He had 59 penalty minutes in 80 games. The time spent in the box per game would then be .7375 minutes. If we change that into seconds that would be 44.25 seconds. Now we'll get away from that stupid penalty box I hate soo much. I will get into Wayne Gretzky records and some of his tremendous accomplishments. The great ones first goal was in 10-4-79. They were playing against the Vancouver Canucks. On December 30, 1981, (my mom's B-day), Mr. Huge obtained his fiftieth goal in only his 39 game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Wow that is a huge number! Now, Reynolds whose record did Waynoo beat and how long did it take them to get 50 goals. A. Mike Bossey, 50 goals in 50 games. B. Maurice the ?rocket' Richard, 50 goals in 50 games. C. Gordie Howe, 50 goals in 50 games. Will it be A, B, or C? What do you think?. It was actually A and B Mr. Reynolds. The great one demolished the sustaining record. If you do the Math it took him 11 less games to reach 50 then it took Maurice or Mike Bossey to reach 50 goals. Wow that was amazing, huh! Lets do up some Math with that then. Wayne's goals per game in that 39 game period would be 1.28 goals per game. Maurice and Bossey's goals per game were 1.00. Using Wayne's average he scored a little more then five goals in four games. Maurice and Bossey averaged out at exactly four goals per game. Wayne Gretzky won
